Overview

Come join Burlington Stores, Inc. as an Industrial Engineer! This position supports Burlington’s distribution centers through foundational engineering support including but not limited to: creation and governance of engineered labor standards, staffing plans, and continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing productivity, reducing expense, maximizing throughput and ensuring workplace safety through data reporting and analysis. Primary customers are Distribution Center operations leadership team.

 

A Day In The Life:

  • Engineered Labor Standards
    • Lead, execute the development and maintenance of accurate and effective engineered standards through time and frequency studies.
    • Oversight of performance incentive pay data inputs. Assists with trouble-shooting data entry, reporting, and data collection problems.
    • Inform stakeholders of changes in the performance standards and advise on ongoing opportunities to achieve stated process capabilities
  • Process Management
    • Define and maintain “Best Methods” for all job functions including training of management and hourly workforce on productivity and work methods
    • Analyze, implement, and document enhancements to existing work methods, flows, and processes to increase throughput
    • Propose, and test new concepts to improve the flow and setup in the distribution centers while taking into consideration ergonomic concepts in work area design
    • Identify, propose, and develop improved operational and key metrics reporting
  • Staffing and Labor Planning
    • Collaborate with DC leadership to optimize labor planning activities in order to achieve departmental and building-level budgets 
  • Project Execution
    • Support business objectives for expense and throughput improvement initiatives including but not limited to: ROI calculations, work methods flow analysis, implementation support, and change management
    • Support the design and implementation of material handling equipment incorporated into existing, new, and expanded network buildings

You'll Come With:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience: 1-5 years in process and material handling system design, work measurement, productivity improvement, cost reduction, and project implementation.

  • Technical Skills: Work measurement methodologies (time study expertise), Standard Data, Predetermined Time Systems, productivity tracking, and data collection systems.

  • Program Development: Experience in best methods implementation, management observation programs, and accountability programs.

  • Analysis & Problem-Solving: Cost analysis for project justification, statistical analysis, operations research, and line balancing.

  • Software & Tools: Proficiency in Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, SQL querying, BI tools, and Manhattan Associates Supply Chain suite (preferred).

  • Industry Knowledge: Distribution center operations, material handling systems, and national logistics networks.

  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, planning, and organizational abilities.
